I thought I would share it with you here, because it sums up his quirky sense of humour and still makes me laugh when I read it.

“I first knew of Chris when, we shared a cell block in Danang back in 73, The VC had denied us any human contact, so Chris developed a coded morsecode which he would tap out using the natural resonance of his open mouth and cranium. For months his effort were futile as no else in the block understood the code he was using. He stil uses code, and we still don't understand him.”

August 9, 2006 - Kieron De La MareAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3535391695788425908.post-49034611431172144822008-06-09T10:46:00.000+01:002008-06-09T10:46:00.000+01:00I'm a journalist living in Newquay (not for local ...I'm a journalist living in Newquay (not for local media). I didn't know Keiron, but I enjoyed his colourful contributions to the News & Trader and followed his campaign as a councillor. I was sad to read in the N&T of his passing. It sounds like he was an even nicer and more interesting chap than I imagined. I'm sorry I didn't get to meet him. Best wishes and condolences to family and friends.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3535391695788425908.post-49878095133751413112008-05-13T09:21:00.000+01:002008-05-13T09:21:00.000+01:00I knew Kieron at school and remained in touch over...I knew Kieron at school and remained in touch over the years. Although there was a gap in contact from just after his joining the Army, we have talked on the phone and email over the last few years. He was still the same 'live wire' he always was.

We saw Keiron last summer and had a real good catch up, about him, us and friends old and new. It was really good to see him. Naturally we are deeply shocked and saddened to learn of his passing, we had hoped to see him again in the next couple of weeks!

Luv from Sharon and I and all in Horsham who have such fond memories!

Rest in peace matey!

RichardAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3535391695788425908.post-20010601191042127412008-05-07T16:09:00.000+01:002008-05-07T16:09:00.000+01:00Always friendly and genuinely concerned about the ...Always friendly and genuinely concerned about the wellbeing of my family. I will miss our regular chats, his positive attitude to life and – of course - his "Sid James" laugh.

Here is a good example of who Kieron was. As a resident of Newquay, he was disgusted with the direction his town was heading. Like most Newquay residents he was sick of living in the binge drinking capital of the UK, but unlike most people he stood up and did something about it. Campaigning as an independent and with no budget at all, he still managed to pull in 229 votes in the local council elections. Although he lost, he celebrated a win, as he had successfully managed to tactically keep out local politicians that in his opinion had damaged the town. Good for him! A very sad loss for Newquay. Let's hope someone else stands up to carry on the work and hopefully stop a lovely town going down the toilet.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
